that the kings future in sacramento seemed secure after a deal for a new downtown arena became a reality. >> it's been a long time, 13 years as you know. [ crying ] >> give me a minute. >> oh, stop. it looks like checkmate for the kings in sacramento. the maloof family backed out despite all the tears. sacramento has no more options left. the yahoo sports reporting that the family is in the final phase of signing a $500 million deal with the seattle-based ownership group that would move the team to the northwest. according to the reports, the team would move after the current season is over and become the seattle supersonics. sacramento mayor kevin johnson says it's not over but seattle's mayor sounded giddy at a news conference. >> i know as much of you do about the sonics. an id. >> what we have seen if the local level in california is that cities like sacramento and los angeles have done local recordkeeping ordnances on ammunition and when they looked at the records, convicted criminals were walking into shops buying ammunition no questions asked. that's a serious public safety issue that needs to be addressed in california. >> there's no id check for bullets. people who sell bullets don't have to be licensed. so we need reasonable safeguards. >> reporter: assemblywoman nancy skinner is introducing a companion bill. it would require the state to maintain records in order to track people who buy ammunition. she believes that will keep ammunition out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. her bill would also alert law enforcement if someone buys a large amount and be able to trace it if a crime does take place. >> we can have a registry and that way, it's those prohibited persons who are prohibited now from buying a weapon somehow have a weapon they bought illegally and then they are buying bullets, law enf

's a first-of-its-kind in the state. a modesto man is suing three sacramento smoke shops. ben sosenko says the man wasn't warned how sick he could get from using something called a whippet. >> actualone point that we had to and out for clergy. >> reporter: jason says he barely survived. now he uses a walker and at times has trouble speaking. he says it's all because he inhaled nitrous oxide. >> i had had it many times at the dentist's office. >> reporter: he thought the nitrous oxide was safe and is now suing three local smoke shops the places he bought the recreational drug commonly known as whip-it claiming they didn't warn him about the danger. >> the only interaction was which ones were more expensive than others and which ones had are more pure nitrous oxide. >> reporter: his attorney provided us this interview she recorded with the man saying he didn't feel well enough to go on camera with us. she says the lawsuit is the first of its kind in california. a civil suit claiming improper warnings on packaging for nitrous oxide and other designer drugs. and she says the suit isn't about t

anderson was arraigned last week. and 21-year-old deangelo austin was arrested in sacramento and is expected to be arraigned tomorrow. javier garcia's family left the courthouse today without making any comments. >> we're not absolutely sure that there aren't other suspects out there that will be apprehended, arrested in this case. >> reporter: sergeant kerry harris of the los gatos- monte sereno police department says police cannot provide more information about the case because it is still under investigation. but court documents from 2006 obtained by the "mercury news" paint a picture of a millionaire businessman accused of questionable business practices and a sham divorce. >> the key for us is to make sure we exhaust every investigative lead before we start talking too much about the case. >> reporter: and the fourth and final suspect in the case at least arrested so far is expected to be arraigned here tomorrow afternoon. at this point, we do not know if three or possibly all four of those suspects will be tried together. reporting live in san jose, i'm mark sayre, cbs

, richmond, vallejo, fairfield to sacramento we are picking up light to moderate rain showers. it's cloudy. oakland 53. san jose 52. san francisco 51. santa rosa 58. even though we didn't get warm, that blanket of cloud cover not leaving tonight so we'll stay in the 40s for a second straight night. vallejo 46. redwood city 44. san francisco 48. these are our lows. the highs tomorrow in places like new york city will not even make it to freezing. take a look at all the people. bust out the fur in new york city. a lot of cold weather in the two-thirds of the country. they are just freezing there. for us, it's chilly but not nearly as bad as what's going on back east. i'm showing you super bowl weather. we have baltimore, san francisco, and, of course, new orleans. look at baltimore's high tomorrow. 28 degrees. we'll hit 59. new orleans sunshine and 71 degrees. so here's what's happening around here. our influence of weather coming up from the south. a lot of moisture still to go. follow this train of moisture off san diego. it will be until sunrise

-def doppler always scanning. see that little green thing at the top of your screen through sacramento? that's the radar beam. it always sends out a signal. the question is what is it receiving back? in this case it is receiving nothing back because there's no rain anywhere close to the bay area. high pressure is off to the west. we can tell this because the rule of nature is northern hemisphere where we live winds always flow clockwise around high pressure so watch the clouds going up toward canada and alaska and then coming back down. right now we are on the eastern fringe of the high that kept you cloudy with high, thin cirrus cloud cover at times today. tomorrow though the high pressure dome begins to move toward us so i expect full sunshine throughout the bay area tomorrow. but it will still be chilly. still on the eastern half of the high. and that means we are still getting our influence coming down from the north. so you have sunshine but highs generally in the mid- to upper 50s. by wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday, high pressure i
